The editors primary responsibility is to cut shots so that the story is told in an effective way. This is achieved in all genres of film. Shots are combined in two ways:
- Continuity Editing: This is used to make it feel like the movie is seamless and continues in a right flow.
- Montage Editing: This is used to make the film more abstract and for the audience to work out what is going on.
The choice of shots by the editor can create meaning in a certain scene.
